Shell Proxy Setup

Most shell scripts can be easily monitored with Proxy.app by using the following simple steps.

Step 1

Note the port number - Proxy.app listens on a designated port number (by default port 8080). To get the current port number simply open the Preferences from the application menu (key equivalent ⌘,).

Step 2

Setup your terminal session - In the terminal you need to setup both http_proxy and https_proxy environment variables. To do this simply type export http_proxy=http://localhost:8080 and export https_proxy=http://localhost:8080. Replace number 8080 with the port number noted from the previous step.

These settings are known to work well with Python, Ruby, Perl, Node.js scripts and standard tools like wget and curl.
